Hello everyone, my name is Lisa Meulblok and I am this year’s Treasurer of Asset | Economics. As Treasurer of our association I have a wide range of responsibilities and tasks. In this article, you can read more about what these are!

The main task of the Treasurer of Asset | Economics is to keep track of the financial situation within our department, this includes both the bookkeeping as well as predicting future cash flows. Being Treasurer also makes me responsible for the legal affairs of the department. Most of these things relate to taxes or partnership contracts. Another task is my participation in the weekly Asset Tilburg Treasurers Meeting (TM). In this meeting all treasurers of Asset Tilburg come together to discuss financial matters going on for the entire faculty association. The role of each treasurer is determined in the beginning of the academic year. This year I chose to join the incasso portfolio, new asset business model taskforce and the newly introduced legal taskforce. I am also the EBT specialist meaning I provide EBT financial advice and control as a member of their audit of accounts. These responsibilities within TM are all of a different calibre and workload. It is also interesting to see what projects all fellow treasurers are working on.

Besides the treasurer specific tasks I am also responsible for different internal tasks like committees, projects, and activities. For example, this year I am the coordinator of the Study Tour committee which is a very exciting challenge especially with the current Covid-19 situation. This year I also got the opportunity to start up an entirely new committee: the drinks committee. This committee so far has turned out to be a great success and we even got assigned to organise our association’s half lustrum gala which is one of the biggest events in recent times. Lastly I also coordinate the blog committee, this means I check and schedule the blogs of the committee members.

All these tasks combined have taught me a lot already and made me grow as an individual. I entered my board year expecting to grow professionally but in the first 6 months it has already more than overwhelmed me. The social growth you experience during a board year is also hard to describe. You get to know a lot of different people, young, old, experienced, or a rookie. It is the variety of people you meet which makes it unique in the way you communicate to either a group or the individuals within that specific group. The things you can learn here go beyond your imagination and truly impact you and your lifestyle. If there is one thing I could recommend to anybody it would be doing a board year!

To conclude, being the Treasurer is a diverse and challenging function which helps develop a multitude of different skills such as your social, professional and personal skills during the year.
