11 years ago, Asset | Economics got established out of a fusion between all the existing economic study associations of Tilburg. In this article, I will tell you more about the developments we have been through and the growth we have experienced.

Let’s start at the beginning. Before 2008, there were various types of study associations present in Tilburg. They all worked independently from each other and caused a lot of ambiguity for students. Students were not certain where to go to and the university was not in favour of this. Therefore, together with the university, study association Asset Tilburg arose. Asset is an abbreviation of Association for Students Studying Economics and management in Tilburg and consists of 7 departments at the moment. 

At that time, there was no specific study association for students studying ‘Algemene Economie’, which was the predecessor of ‘Economie en Bedrijfseconomie’. Because the university thought that those students also deserved a nice place to go to, they decided to set up a new association, called Asset | Economics. We received a loan and a room in building E, and the four very first board members of that time started to build something we nowadays know as one of the most fun and cozy associations of Tilburg. 

In these past 11 years, we have known rapid growth in the amount of (active) members of our association, organized many beautiful formal and informal events, and have experienced great laughter and fun with each other. Last year we celebrated our second lustrum, in the theme of ‘The hunt’, with some great activities ranging from the end ball to the Economics Battle. It was a perfect way to look back at the beautiful years our association has had. 

In the future, we hope to connect some more partners to our association and keep on the good cooperation with the university. But most importantly, we would like to keep on being the fun and cozy association we are known for and give new students the warm feeling of a strong group of friends. We would like to say cheers on 11 years of great memories, and despite Corona, the future is looking bright for our association!
